Thousands of healthcare providers across the country ring in 2017 facing new challenges in meeting CMS’ Quality Payment Program expectations in transitioning to a higher quality patient‐centered care model. information exchanges in the nation, have announced the release of an innovative suite of analytic
products and services that Kansas physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare professionals can turn to
as they transition to the new era of Merit‐Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and other Alternative
Payment Models (APMs) related to MACRA. The physician‐driven technology development reflects a
year of research and the creative input of nine pilot organizations including physician groups and

to access advanced analytics utilizing clinical data, across all HIE participating providers from whom a
patient has received care. Clinicians who use the KHS dashboards will be able to proactively manage the
care of their patients in ways that have not been readily available before.”
In preliminary testing of the new analytic tool that delivers web‐based dashboards, Joe Davison, MD,
West Wichita Family Physicians, P.A., Wichita, KS, reports, “Isolating this kind of health information,
using the right technology at the right time is a hugely powerful tool.” He explained, “For example, I can
look at my patient population and see those patients who are in trouble. I may not have known they
were in trouble, but when I look at the analytic reports that represent my panel of patients, I see I have
a certain number of patients who have poor to no control of their diabetes. I can identify those patients;
I can extract a list of those patients, and then I can act on that information.”
The High Risk Patient, Preventive Care, Readmissions and Disease Registry reports are foundational
elements of the dashboard package. Healthcare providers and hospital teams subscribing to the webbased
analytics can access the aggregated clinical data, run and view reports derived from the patient
data in the health information exchange, as well as download and import the data into other software
tools. The dashboards present report details in a dynamic way, allowing the authorized user to
manipulate the view of the data and isolate key data points. The dashboard displays will not only prove
extremely helpful to providers in the CMS payment model transition, but will have a favorable impact to
managing patient care.
Utilization of the KHS analytic tool and web‐based dashboards is expected to be one solution to assist
physicians in delivering higher quality, more efficient, and less expensive patient care. Employing the
“right” technology at the right time will enhance and smooth what is expected to be a bumpy transition
into the new performance‐based payment world.
